Guide / Links & QR

QR codes

Every page and every short link can produce a QR code. You'll find the download on the short link's own row, and under the preview panel for your page's automatic link.

Because the code encodes the short link rather than a long destination, the pattern stays simple. Fewer, larger modules scan faster and survive worse conditions, which is a real advantage at small print sizes.

Customising it

You can change the size and the colours, and drop the Klick.ing brand mark if your plan allows it. Two rules are worth respecting whatever you choose:

  • Dark pattern on a light background. Inverted codes fail on a lot of scanners, and you will not find out which until it's printed.
  • Keep real contrast. If the two colours are hard for you to tell apart, a phone camera in bad light has no chance.

Printing it

Size it by the distance people will scan from, divided by ten: roughly 3 cm for a code read at 30 cm, roughly 30 cm for one read across a room. Then leave a clear margin around it, since the blank border is part of the code, and add a few words saying what happens if you scan. "Scan for the menu" outperforms a bare code every time.

Test the printed proof on both an iPhone and an Android phone, in bad light, before you commit to a run. Our full QR code guide goes through the rest of the failure modes.
